Kishida Kyoudan & the Akeboshi Rockets – HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD

August 18, 2010

I realized that it’s kinda unfair to rate singles on the same level of albums.  So I’m going to start being unnecessarily complicated and use a 5 point rating system rather than the 10 point system albums use. After all, singles have much smaller chances of screwing up than a full length album.

Album: HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD
Artist/Circle: Kishida Kyoudan & the Akeboshi Rockets
Release Type: Commercial Single
Release Date: 08/18/2010

  1. HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD
How much you like this single will depend on how much you like the lead vocalist. I, for one, like her a lot. HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD is a prime example of the rock genre, featuring all those rock instruments you commonly hear; guitars, drums, bass, you name it. The full version doesn’t differ too much from the TV size version, the only difference being the inclusion of an instrumental solo in the second half. But hey, you don’t need to fix what isn’t broken, right?
  2. Ripple
I like the guitar opener in this track, and the general rhythm of the vocals. The vocalist likes to carry on her lyrics (see: KUZUUUUUUUURETAAAAAAAAA), and she does it a good amount in this track. In the end half, the background music fades away to emphasize the vocals, and it does it in a good way (read: does not seem obtrusive and blends in nicely).
  3. HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD (TV size)
A lot of singles seem to be coming out with the TV size versions a lot these days. Eh, just listen to the full version, unless you’re short on time or something.
  4. HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD (Inst)
  5. Ripple (Inst)

Rating: 4/5 (The vocals seem to be love it or hate it though, but for me, this is a great single release.)
